Who I Am

A Predestined Decree

Her reflection in the mirror

Can tell a tale so deep.

Broken pieces reveal a life

Of tears and unpausing weeps.

The image cast two faces

One true, one fake,

But

Which will be accepted,

Within this carnal race?

But underneath the cuts and scars

Lies a future preordained.

Piece by piece the future takes shape,

So the past will no longer remain.

She walks in beauty from deep within

A light positioned on a hill

Chosen…to be discerned..

Because of her Father’s will.

GO, take this light to others

Who are lost in the dark.

Lonely, afraid, and forgotten...

Nevertheless destined to make their mark.

They will understand their purpose.

They will understand their goals.

No more lingering in the shadows--

Refined…as Pure Gold.

Psalms 23:3 say, "He leads me in the paths of Righteousness for His name sake. Paths are designed to lead us in many different directions. The paths that we choose, some difficult, others easy,  influence the person we become.   My predestined future began over 50 years ago when I was born to a single mother, in a small Texas town.  The youngest of four children, I grew up in a five-room house with my mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and uncle. life was hard for us because mama, as well as my grandmother, were high school dropouts.  At the time, this was a necessary choice to meet the demands of their ever-growing responsibilities.

As we know, children learn what they live, and I followed in the same footsteps as mama and Madear did.  Alcoholism, mental, physical, and verbal abuse were common in our household, either because of the lack of money or the depression that comes with it. This same existence became my existence when I was a single parent of three daughters.  Some may see my past as a hindrance, but I see it as the power which propelled me into a better life.  Now, I am a proud wife and mother, teacher, mentor, and motivator. Don't get me wrong, although I've used past mistakes as stepping stones, the daily journey continues through Him who strengthens me.
